Organic Panchratna Dal, also known as five jewels lentil mix, is a unique north Indian style dal. It is a mixture of 5 protein-packed lentils. In Hindi, “Panch” denotes five, and “Ratna” indicates diamond/jewel.

This mixture includes 5 specific types of lentils, which are split green gram (moong dal), split black gram (urad dal), split Bengal gram (chana dal), split pigeon peas (toor dal), and red lentils (masoor dal).

Organic Panchratna Dal is a famous staple dish in Rajasthani, Punjabi, and Mughlai cuisine. This dal also has other names like Dal panchmel, Dal Panchratni or Rajasthani Panchratna Dal. This is naturally gluten-free and organically grown without harmful chemicals and preservatives. Organic Dal panchratna is a perfect blend of fibre and protein which has a rich flavour and great texture.

Cultivation Process Of Panchratna Dal

  • Moong dal (Green Gram) : The cultivation method of this dal includes planting the seeds in the soil, and providing adequate sunlight and water. This dal is grown in tropical and subtropical regions. It is a short-season crop that matures within the span of 60-70 days
  • Urad dal (Black Gram) : The Urad dal in dal panchratna involves sowing seeds in well-drained fields under sunlight with regular irrigation. Urad dal is largely grown in tropical and subtropical regions, and is a longer-season crop which matures in 70-80 days.
  • Toor dal (Pigeon Peas) : Toor Dal cultivation process requires light alkaline, deep, and moist soil with proper sunlight. It is a long-season crop and takes 100-120 days to get properly mature.
  • Masoor dal (Red Lentils) : Cultivated by sowing the seeds in well-drained soil during the suitable season, providing adequate sunlight and water, and harvesting the matured lentil plants for consumption. It is a short-season crop which generally matures in 60-70 days.
  • Chana dal (Bengal Gram) : After perfectly sowing the seeds of chana in rainfed condition with proper spacing. Chana requires proper irrigation facilities, adequate water and sunlight, applying balanced fertilisers, and managing pests for good yield. This crop matures in 80-90 days.

Storage Information On Pancharatna Dal

Organic Pancharatna dal can last for over a year if they are stored properly.

  • After buying them, empty the packet of Organic panchratan dal in an airtight container.
  • Put the container in a cool and dry area.
  • Places with moisture should be avoided.
