Long Pepper (Pippali) – Piper longum

Long pepper, also known as Indian long pepper or Pippali in Ayurveda, is a flowering vine from the Piperaceae family. It is cultivated for its dried fruit, which is widely used as a spice, seasoning, and therapeutic herb in traditional medicine systems like Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani.

Flavor and Botanical Features :-

Long pepper has a flavor profile similar to that of black pepper (Piper nigrum), though it is generally sweeter and milder in pungency.

• The fruit is composed of many tiny seeds, each about the size of a poppy seed, embedded in a catkin-like spike resembling a hazel flower.

• It contains piperine, the same pungent compound found in black pepper, which contributes to its distinctive kick.
