Karanj Seeds

Karanj Beej is known for its bitter, pungent, and astringent taste. It is easy to digest and is believed to have strong, hot, and penetrating properties. Various parts of the tree—such as the fruits, leaves, stem bark, root bark, seeds, and twigs—are used in Ayurvedic medicine.

Karanj (Latin name: Millettia pinnata) is a native Indian tree found across the country and is known for its role as a valuable bio-fuel crop. Although the oil from its seeds is not edible, it is widely used in villages to produce bio-gas, serving as an alternative to diesel and helping to power water pumps and local grid systems. In Ayurveda, Karanj is a well-known herbal remedy mainly used for treating skin problems. Traditionally, its twigs have also been used as natural toothbrushes.
