Dhataki is pungent in taste, cold in po-tency, intoxicating and is laghu. Flowers of Dhataki are astringent in action, antipoisonous, haemostatic, and vul-nerary. These are used in diarrhoea, diar-rhoea with blood, dysentery, chronic diar-rhoeal disorders, leucorrhoea, menorrhagia, piles, hepatic disorders and wounds.

Benefits of Woodfordia fruticosa :

1) Powder of dried flowers is given with honey or buttermilk for diarrhoea and dysentery. A decoction of Dhataki flowers, Bilvamajja, Lodhra bark, Tagara, and Gaja-pippali (in equal parts) is used in the same conditions. This decoction can be used for children with diarrhoea.

2) Powder of the flowers is used with honey for menorrhagia, leucorrhoea, and piles. In leucorrhoea, the flower powder is taken with rice washings.

3) In Manyãra snake poisoning, the juice of leaves is given orally, instilled in the nose, and rubbed over the body.

4) In Konkan, for biliousness and headache caused by pitta dosa, the patient’s mouth is filled with sesame oil and the juice of the leaves is applied to the head.

5) Powdered flowers are used to reduce discharge and promote healing in ulcers. A decoction is used to wash wounds.

6) The flowers are used in the fermentation process of Asavas and Aristas.
